April brings forth so much more than the moon moving into Aries. National autism awareness month brings forth emotions, questions and pride . As a occupational therapist practitioner working primarily with kids living with autism, I think it's important to honor this month and recognize the incredible beings living on the autism spectrum.
What can you do during Autism Awareness month? We'll here are a few ideas
- research autism if you don't understand it in order to develop compassion and love
-spread the word about this month
- look for a walk in your state
-share a few facts about autism on your page
-give your time to a parent with children living with autism and find a way to help her this month
-give a parent some free time and offer to babysit
-come up with some fun sensory activities for a child close to you
-volunteer
-wear blue
-educate your self and others
-help your children to be more compassionate about differences so we can reduce bullying
-send some silent love
Did you know that research is now linking the development
Of autism to be within 2nd and 3rd trimester? This finally links science to environmental triggers. GMOs, pesticides, preservatives, processed sugar, wheat, dairy, metal levels...it's all related with new research to back this up. Take a moment to learn a little more and support the families you know and don't, with little ones.
The most important thing you can do is educate yourself and others to help reduce misunderstanding and judgement in the world. Signing off.
Enjoy your day spread the word.
