When we lead our moment with our heart first instead of brain, we make decisions driven by selflessness.
Selflessness: “devoted to others' welfare or interests and not one's own; unselfish; altruistic. 2.showing or prompted by unselfishness or altruism; self-sacrificing: a selfless act”
To make selfless decisions and plan actions, one must surrender to the welfare of the other people and situations and make a decision to benefit all involved first before self. Does this mean not caring for oneself? No it doesn’t, I believe it means caring for yourself so much that your decisions benefit others and self as a web of life. Chief Seattle has a beautiful quote “Man does not weave the web of life, he is merely just a strand in it, whatever man does to the web he does to himself”. This beautifully illustrates, in simple terms, that whatever decisions you make that benefit all other people will ultimately benefit yourself. However, the point of leading with your heart first is to have the concern of others foremost, with an understanding that those good decisions and positive actions will be of benefit for all in the circle of this life.
To lead with heart first and not ego, takes the complication and anxiety out of the moment. The ego is incredibly powerful and will rise to meet challenges with only one person and interest in mind; self and no one else. The ego can be defeated or tampered byRECOGNITION of selfish decisions and attitudes and making mindful movements and thoughts away from the selfishness that is the ego.
Here is an example from my yoga classes this week, that leading with your heart first in your yoga practice removes the ego that makes you press yourself too hard, try a pose you aren’t ready for and make a dangerous decision JUST to impress those around you and your instructor. If you lead your practice with your heart first, you make decisions for your practice that keep you safe, challenged and strong…ultimately benefiting others because you let them practice within their sacred space and don’t disturb that sacred space by injuring yourself or possibly injuring someone next to you.
As I always express, this is a practice, a daily moment by moment practice and recognition is the first step towards living our lives in this way. As for today, I ask you to make your next decision, or create your next thought about something with your heart first. See where that takes you.
I love you all and I love myself. Ultimately loving all of you can contribute to loving myself. Thank you for your contribution in my existence.
