“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.” — Brian Tracy
We have all been there before, something just goes wrong, not in our plan of events for the day and for a split second it feels like everything is just crashing down at once...horrible feeling isnt it? Emotions may arise about the person we believe "caused" the turn of events, or the situation, conversation, comment that we want to blame for causing havoc on our day. Thats the easy way out, to blame and curse and think negative thoughts about someone, but in the end you actually choose the most difficult path.
Why? The negative thoughts, maybe mean note or gossip that resulted from blaming others resulted in stress, anxiety, and build up of toxins on your body and in your mind. In addition, you didnt allow yourself to grow or further your mindfulness practice; you actually paused it in that moment.
New practice for you to try...find gratitude for the situation or person. "Whaaat did she just say?" You read correctly, find gratitude for whatever or whoever may have disrupted your planned event, day, lesson plan etc. You will feel free, relaxed, in synch, in touch and feel better about your day and your journey by doing this.
One of my Buddhist gurus inspired this teaching, he told me "that person in line in front of you that has too many items, too many questions and coupons, the one that pushes your "created" buttons, that one--->hes your guru, he teaches you patience and compassion daily" He then proceeded to impress me "what if we treated those that pushed us the most as a guru and honored them, thanking them for their lesson and sending them love?" "The world would be a better place instantly" And just like that my mind was blown, he was right. To all the people on the road who make you want to scream in your vehicle, instead deep breath, be patient and thank them for teaching you another moment of patience and love so that YOU can feel calm and be a good person in that moment.
Think about who you can send gratitude to this coming week, allow your frustration to transform into gratefulness, honor and patience and then ask yourself "was that really too bad?"
Always practicing, always learning and striving to be a better person to make the world a better place, one breath, one moment, one person at a time.
Bless.
Enjoy your week!
